Easter Eggs #1 – The More You Know

Easter Eggs #1 – The More You Know

In Easter Eggs, we (re)share with you some of the secrets hidden in There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension, such as references to geek or pop culture of the 80s and 90s, and to the Creator’s life.

A dialogue from Fight Club

When Glitch is talking on the phone with Game, their dialogue is taken from “Fight Club”:

- I… I don’t know.

– I think you know.

– Because…

– You got it.

– Because…

– Say it.

– Because we come from the same code?

– That’s right.

Here is the scene from the film.

Game's Reference to Mortville Manor

When Game is underwater, he mentions he could do the voiceover for Mortville Manor, a french videogame from 1987. This is one of the first video games using speech synthesis in dialogues, and the english version has a french accent!

Here is a snippet of this game.

A frame of Frank Oz and Jim Henson

During the last chapter, you can see a frame on the desk. It’s a picture of Jim Henson & Franck Oz, two puppeteer masters and filmmakers who rocked the Creator’s childhood! (And there’s also a flying squirrel plush…)

The error numbers are those from LOST

In the first chapter, the numbers from this error message are the numbers from the TV show LOST. These numbers appear regularly in the series. We had to include them in order to save the world.

A frame of Day of the Tentacle

In chapter 2, you can see the inside of Sherlock Holme’s home. There is a framing on the wall, which is actually an image of the video game Day of the Tentacle. It is a graphic adventure video game developed and published by LucasArts in June 1993.

Holme's rug is also from Day of the Tentacle

Still in chapter 2, inside of Sherlock Holme’s home, you can see a rug on the floor which is actually the same as the one we can see in Day of the Tentacle.

The Ghostbusters phone number

In chapter 2, the phone number for calling Miss Voodoo actually is the number of the Ghostbusters hotline, which pops up on a television screen in the middle of the film.

These numbers are actually used by a lot of fictional characters. Click here if you want to learn more about it.

The references to CoinOP Story

The last Easter Egg has nothing to do with point-and-click games as it is related to one of the Creator’s unfinished projects. (But not dead yet!)

CoinOp Story is, indeed, a metroid-like action/platform game, on which the Creator has been working for years. But it has never been officially released.

In chapter 6, the coffee cup used by the Creator is also a reference to CoinOp Story:
